What is Personality and Leadership Profiling?

Polaris Coaching uses a number of tools and approaches to better understand an individual's thinking and behaviour. Two of our primary resources in which our coaches are accredited are outlined below.

Human Synergistic  LSI 360 degree feedback tool

Based on the idea that in "order to understand and change behaviour, we must first examine the feelings  and thoughts that underlie and motivate everything we say and do.

The LSI was developed to assist individuals in identifying and understanding their thinking patterns (or styles) and self concept (i.e. how they see themselves). Using this information, LSI participants can elect to change the way they think about themselves and others, and in turn improve the effectiveness of their behaviour." (Human Synergisitcs)

The LSI is made up of 240 single words or phrases. These are self rated and then rated by  others (peer, boss and direct reports) to provide a 360 degree view of the individual. The items are then scored and compared to a pool of over 10 000 individuals  form various organisations and a profile is created.

The profile is created in the form of a circumplex which records the following 12 styles:

Achievement                         Self Actualizing                      Humanistic Encouraging

Affiliative                              Approval                               Conventional

Dependent                            Avoidance                             Oppositional

Power                                   Competitive                          Perfectionistic

Management Research Group Leadership Effectiveness Analysis (LEA)

Another 360 degree feedback tool. The LEA is a performance enhancement system based on the premise that in order for individuals to improve their leadership skills, they must first understand what their needs are.

The LEA process begins with an objective diagnosis of strengths and weaknesses and provides feedback on developmental needs and strategies for improvement. The LEA defines leadership in terms of 22 specific behaviours. These are divided into 6 functions:

Creating a Vision                                                                   Following Through
